im not sure who mel trained with will have to ask her, Mel was recommended by Sara my usual trimmer who is in the states doing more training.  Im sure they are not strasser and they have mention j.jackson but the other names went out of my head c/o ignorance and a poor memory on my part lol!

i am really considering doing the training myself as there is no one in my area and Sara/ Mel have to trek all the way from wales.  ive got to get some handling practice just keeping them neat on bob between trims and maybe investigate a bit more while im on maternity leave

Go for it Erica,

Even if it's just to do your own horse, you will find that if you get qualified you may end up really helping others at the yard there. There's so much on the internet now which is helpful and all the barefoot links on my link page of the main site has all the ones which have helped me no end.

I got Jackson's books a couple of years ago and they were a huge insight.

Happy reading, make the most of the maternity leave as once the little nipper is born you probably won't get much time for anything else

Hi all- i'm new here!!! My mare's shoes are coming off next week  .. she's only got front ones on at the mo .. i bought her with them on but had already decided to try barefoot with her before we got her  ... she will totally ironfree as soon as our new bitless bridle arrives ..! our trimmer is Mel Barker ... of right to remain shoeless. i havn't met Mel yet  but she's come extremely highly recommended and has already been so helpful to us .. both by phone and email ... by following Mel's  advice from day one Maddie's hooves are already 100% better than they were when we first got her home we can't wait for her trim so we can get her going on the right way forward!

Hi and welcome Dawn,

So lovely to hear such enthusiasm for barefoot and your bitless quest too. Good luck with your new mare, she sounds lovely and I'm sure you're going to have a lot of fun with her.

It's such a wonderful experience going back to basic's with your horse and I for one feel very good about being as natural as possible with our herd, it's a real inner feeling of doing the right thing isn't it.

Have fun

Shelley

Hi Shelley - thank you for your kind welcome!!! your site is great !!! - i've been telling a few 'traditionals' at my yard today ..it's made one or two re-think a few things i think

i particularly like your comparisons of wild equus and equus as we've tried to shape them .. it's a very sobering, down to earth view, on what humankind has been responsible for over time ... i'm very proud to now be part of the solution instead of being part of the problem  ..

i know Maddie thanks me for it  ( i do actually !!!  as i had the most amazing reading recently with a lovely Animal Communicator who told me so ... if anyone is interested i can pass further details on about this lovely lady  to anyone who needs them!!!  - you honestly  can't get any better thanks  than literally getting it straight from your own horses' mouth! )

love and light to you, yours and your horses,

Dawn and Maddie
